Explore Costa del Sol in the Autumn

Costa del Sol lives up to its name with around 325 sunny days every year. The temperature in autumn drops a little, but you can still expect sun and warmth. Therefore, you can still take the family to the beach or enjoy other outdoor activities. However, one should be aware that some activities may be closed due to being in the low season. We have therefore compiled a small guide for you, who are on the Costa del Sol this autumn. The possibilities are many and only the imagination sets limits to what you can do.

Activities for the Whole Family

You can take the family to Bioparc in Fuengirola, where you can experience tropical animals from the island of Madagascar, Equatorial Africa, Southeast Asia and the islands of the Indo-Pacific. The concept is to create a park where animals coexist in a re-creation of their natural habitat.

In addition, you can also experience the Spanish countryside with a guided riding excursion for both beginners and experienced riders. These authentic experiences can, for example, be experienced in Ronda, where the trip can be combined with a picnic. Get more information more here.

If you prefer relaxing, you can of course also enjoy the day on one of the many fine beaches along the Costa del Sol. Here you can also find good opportunities for water sports such as jet skiing, paddleboarding and kayaking. If you want to get further out to sea, you can book a boat trip where you can see dolphins. You can also take the family to the Mariposario de Benalmádena, where you can experience Europe’s best butterfly park.

If the family wants to be more active, you can visit Aventura Amazonia, which is an adventure park near Marbella. The adventure park offers activities and challenges for both young and old in the family

Adrenalin Kick

Costa del Sol also offers activities that kick-start your adrenaline rush. We definitely recommend Sunview Park in Alhaurin de la Torre, where you can try the longest zip-line in Andalucia. On site you can also enjoy the view from their bar and restaurant.

If you cannot get enough of these kinds of experiences with heights, you can visit the Caminito del Rey, which is a 3 km long hiking trail 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. Do you want to stay down to earth, there is also ample opportunity for this. There are many different types of water sports along the coast. In Marbella you can try Cable-ski/Wakeboard, where you combine techniques from water skiing, snowboarding and surfing.

Experience the History

On the Costa del Sol there are also good opportunities to explore the history of the area’s many museums and preserved buildings. You can, for example, visit the Picasso Museum in Malaga, where Pablo Picasso was also born. At the museum, many of his works of art are on display, and you can read about the artist’s life.

In addition, you can visit the Alcazaba in Malaga, which is the best preserved alcazaba in Spain. Alcazaba is a fortification built by the Moors in the middle of the 11th century. Next to the Alcazaba are the ruins of Malaga’s Roman theater dating back to the 2nd Century BC. We also recommend a visit to Cuevas de Nerja. Cuevas de Nerja are stalactite caves that have been inhabited more than 25,000 years ago and feature caves, archeological remains and the world’s largest column that rises 32 meters. The stalactite caves stretch over 5 km and form the setting for an amphitheater, where concerts and other events are occasionally held in the chambers. In addition to the trip in the stalactite caves, you can visit the museum on site to read more about the exciting history behind Cuevas de Nerja.

Good Taste Experiences

Along the Costa del Sol, there are countless restaurants offering food from all nations. Explore the restaurants on the seafront along the coast or in the cozy little Spanish streets. In the mild evening hours, it is also a must to enjoy your food or a drink outside. Out of many, we recommend El Pimpi bar & restaurant in Malaga or the Trocadero restaurant, located in Benalmádena, Marbella and Estepona.

If you want a more local and authentic taste experience, you can also go on a guided wine tour or visit an olive grove. An example might be Toma & Coe in Torremolinos, who tells the story behind olives and shows the process from the development of the plant to olive oil.
